Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants Fantasy Football Matchup Breakdown For Week 1

Dallas Cowboys Fantasy Preview 

Honestly, a little shocked by the proximity of the spread at the open (+2.5), and equally as surprised it’s only moved half a point since. Regardless of what you think about Dallas defensively, how do the Boys not at least handle their business on offense to eclipse +30 points in this one? 

Already a wide-awake sleeper for NFL MVP at (+1040) in sharper circles, Dak Prescott’s going mostly unmentioned among normies after coming off an excellent +305 fantasy point season as the overall QB6. Getting big-time Bengals vibes from Dallas the more I think about it (gunslinger QB, volume-based RB, plus two incredible wideouts and a middle-of-the-road TE). 

Firmly projected in my top-tier of offensive units even at the mean, Dallas could actually build off this most recent top-3 finish in yards/game (391.9), offensive success rate (49.5%), and points/drive (2.6). A lot to like about America’s Team — before even hoping to run hot on TD passes. Prescott ran a +6.0% TD rate across three years between 2021-2023, followed by a two-season stretch at 4.6%. A beneficial pendulum swing, and we’re looking at the first +40-TD campaign of his career.

Arguably the best wide receiver duo in the game today next to Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, CeeDee Lamb plus George Pickens equals nightmare fuel for opposing coordinators. In the 12 games played together in 2025, each racked up +2.0 yards/route while averaging ~16 fantasy points/game and soaking up nearly half of the team's target share. And talk about winning in any scenario — both members of DAL’s dynamic duo posted +3.0 yards/route versus man, +2.1 yards/route versus zone, and a minimum +11% success rate against each. Boom.

With so much attention going toward the aerial attack, a runway’s clear for the most boring RB1 in fantasy, Javonte Williams, to dominate once more. Owner of 287 total touches last season, only 12 other RBs commanded a higher backfield opportunity share. Mix in a surprise release of best-ball darling Jaydon Blue with the signing of Emari Demercado, and it’s become increasingly clear — Dallas is choosing Javonte’s reliability (0.04 EPA/rush, 50.0% success rate, 11.5% ≤0-yard attempt rate) over explosives. Hey, whatever works.

Determined to rectify my disagreement with the spread, I combed through every roster move and spreadsheet on the Giants’ side, only to come up mostly empty. New York drafted rookie CB Colton Hood 36th overall to go with former Bear ILB Tremaine Edmunds and former Lion DT D. J. Reader. 

Any positive additions are nice, but it feels like an incomplete project given New York’s myriad of struggles on defense. Hard to turn around such a poor run-stopping unit in a single season — NYG wound up dead last in EPA/rush (-0.13), success rate (54.3%), yards/carry (5.3), and +20-yard rushes (19).

New York Giants Fantasy Preview 

Giants enter 2026 not quite as electric, with a considerably lower floor despite being built for fantasy. What do us gamers love? Running quarterbacks, a dominant RB, and a narrow target tree. Check every box.

Not to get my blood pressure up again in fits of confusion over running QBs suddenly getting treated as persona non grata in fantasy circles — but Jaxson Dart, wild as he may be, stands among the very few fantasy shot callers with +25 point/game upside. How do we know? He was the overall QB1 for a five-week stretch between Weeks 6-10, clearing the entire field by more than two fantasy points/game! Seriously driving myself crazy all summer wondering how he’d regularly fall outside the top-100.

For the social media news hounds out there (who desperately need to touch grass) — I’m sorry, but you’re missing me entirely with the negative narratives on Cam Skattebo, as if the remains of Najee Harris will meaningfully threaten his workload without injury. Not happening. 

Last we saw the Bash Brothers playing in unison from Weeks 2-7, Skattebo was locked in as a weekly RB1. Besides the +19 fantasy points/game, Cam earned almost 5 targets/game, and an incredible 95% of goal-line RB touches. Last we saw Harris, he was busy averaging just over 4.1 yards/attempt … before tearing his Achilles in late September. I expect an ancillary role, nothing more.

Don’t overthink Big Blue’s passcatchers when they’re making it so simple to comprehend. Two players currently track to command most of Dart’s attention, and we should all be starting them until further notice. Even 75% of Malik Nabers warrants a go this weekend. And don’t even get me started on Isaiah Likely. 

For years, we’ve taken this guy in redraft, dreaming of a full-time opportunity. Now he’s not only the Giants’ TE1, but also their clear second target-getter, who’s also receiving glowing camp reports — and they just vacated 140 mostly short-range targets after the departure of Wan’Dale Robinson! Non-zero chance Likely works as NYG’s primary slot weapon, with Nabers getting the most attention on his way to a top-4 positional finish. 

Granted, Dallas kinda stunk on defense in 2025, but let’s give credit where it’s due — they poured lots of resources into rectifying the situation. From drafting two defenders in the first round alone (S Caleb Downs and ED Malachi Lawrence), to acquiring former Cardinal S Jalen Thompson, and of course extending big Quinnen Williams, the new-look Cowboys could flip last year’s spreadsheet on its head.
